We are pleased to present the beautiful and ingenious pop-up books of Brooklyn-based artists Sjoerd Hofstra and Karen O’hearn. Not devised for children, these sophisticated editions—meditations on architecture, nature, geometry, and design, among other subjects—combine intricately engineered moving parts with original texts and images to produce wonderfully engaging and thoughtful modernist volumes—all constructed individually by hand, and visually arresting in both form and function. The full range of the pair’s collaborative canon will be on display in the gallery, including two new limited edition pop-ups created especially for this exhibition. Dimensional wall pieces and process material that expand upon their bibliographical techniques will also be on view.
